Gunman Chronicles is, first and foremost, a mod. It's a mod that comes with a stripped (of regular Half-Life) engine, but a mod all the same.
First off: If you have a regular copy of Half-Life, the best way to play GC is to treat it like a mod. Copy the rewolf directory into your Half-Life install. GC will now play although the intro video will not work.
If you don't have a copy of Half-Life then you can go the other way--update GC's engine. We have a patch for that. I'm not quite sure WHERE the patch for it is; it's pretty low in demand. But I know who to pester for the link and can do so if you need it. But I'd like to stress this: treating GC like a mod is the best way to run it. The GC patch is ONLY intended for people with a copy of Gunman Chronicles who lack a copy of Half-Life. It's much easier for everyone involved to not deal with the various gimped engines out there.
